It's October!
I can't even begin to tell you how many hours I've spent these last couple weeks buying stock for the shop and then assembling that stock for the shop. I say assembling because we are offering "Date with a Book" this year. I went ahead and made a TON of stock for October (Horror and Thrillers), November (Autumn Cozy Mystery), and December (Christmas Romances). I also had to fill two racks with random picks that I was certain most people hadn't read yet, but also novels that still got high scores on goodreads.
Speaking of, I was watching one of my fave BookTok reviewers on TikTok today, and it got me thinking about Spooky Season book recommendations. I'm not saying I have books we recommend at the shop at all times--we're a smaller store and a lot of books go in and out every weekend--but they're good books no matter WHERE you find them.
Let's start with Jennifer McMahon's The Invited. Just look at that cover! I'm freaked out before I even open the book. What's it about?
Well, it's obviously "A chilling ghost story...of a husband and wife (in the Vermont woods) who don't simply move into a haunted house, they start building one from scratch, without knowing it, until it's too late (New York Times)." It's no secret that I'm one of the world's biggest chickens. I can't watch horror movies, and I got nauseous a few times reading the last 25% of Stephen King's Pet Sematary. That said, if it involves ghosts, Vermont, the Woods, and a cover like that? I'm in.
